AI Companion ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
We may collect the following types of information:
Personal Information: When you create a profile, we collect your first name and date of birth to verify your age (18+) and personalize your experience. We do not require your real name.
Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including messages sent, features used, session duration, and in-app preferences. This helps us improve the App experience.
Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information for analytics and troubleshooting.
Camera and Photos: If you choose to use photo features, we access your camera or photo library only with your explicit permission. Photos are processed for AI features and are not stored on our servers permanently.
Microphone and Audio: If you use voice features, we access your microphone with your permission. Audio recordings are sent to our servers for transcription and are not stored permanently.
Advertising Data: We use Google AdMob to serve ads. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data for personalized advertising. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings.
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
- Verify that you meet the minimum age requirement (18+)
- Personalize your AI companion experience
- Process your voice inputs and generate AI responses
- Display relevant advertisements through Google AdMob
- Send you notifications (with your permission) such as daily reminders
- Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve the App
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
To provide AI-powered features, your data is shared with the following third-party services. By using the App, you consent to this data sharing:
Anthropic (Claude AI) — Chat & Conversation Processing: When you send messages to your AI companion, your message text, conversation context, and companion personality settings are transmitted to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. Anthropic processes this data on their servers. Anthropic may use this data as described in Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We do not send your real name, email, or account credentials to Anthropic.
OpenAI — Image Generation: When you use image creation features (e.g., character generation, selfies), text prompts describing the desired image are sent to OpenAI's DALL-E API. OpenAI processes these prompts to generate images. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
ElevenLabs — Voice & Text-to-Speech: When you use voice call features, text is sent to ElevenLabs' API to generate spoken audio. ElevenLabs processes this data on their servers. See ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy.
Google AdMob — Advertising: We use Google AdMob to serve advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data for ad personalization. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Expo — App Framework & Notifications: Provides the app framework and push notification delivery. See Expo's Privacy Policy.
Your chat history and preferences are stored locally on your device using encrypted storage (AsyncStorage). We do not maintain a central database of your full conversations.
Conversation Memories: Key facts from your conversations (e.g., your preferences, interests, and topics you discuss) are extracted and stored on our secure servers (PostgreSQL database) to help your AI companion remember important details about you across sessions. These memory facts do not include full conversation transcripts.
User Accounts: Your email address, encrypted password, and account preferences are stored on our servers to provide authentication and sync features.
We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Before using the App, you are asked to explicitly consent to the data sharing practices described above. You may withdraw your consent at any time by discontinuing use of the App and deleting your account. If you do not consent to these data sharing practices, you should not use the App.
The App is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. We implement age verification at first launch. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their information.
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request deletion of your data (use the "Reset Profile" option in the App)
- Opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings
- Disable notifications through your device settings
- Revoke camera and microphone permissions through your device settings
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date.
